Everywhere you look, decorated Christmas trees are popping up. But where does a Christmas tree shine brighter than at a Christmas market? One with everything included — the tree and the market — you’ll find them in all the major cities of Flanders. And where do we also have a hostel where you can stay? That’s right, in those very same cities. You can probably already guess where we’re heading, right?
To the Christmas markets, of course! But where exactly can you go, and from when? We’ll give you an overview.
Winter Wonders Brussels
Brussels truly comes alive during Plaisirs d’Hiver. From 28 November 2025 to 4 January 2026, the city centre transforms into a magical Christmas town: from the impressive Christmas tree on the Grand Place with its breathtaking sound and light show, to the lively chalets at the Vismet, Sainte-Catherine and the Stock Exchange, where you can indulge in warm waffles, mulled wine and unique gifts. Lace up your skates and hit the ice rink on Place De Brouckère, and don’t miss a ride on the Ferris wheel. All this and more is what our capital has to offer this festive season. And hostel Bruegel provides you and your company with a comfortable bed!
Wintergloed in Bruges
From 21 November 2025 to 4 January 2026, Bruges hosts the magical Wintergloed experience. This light trail guides you through the city, passing two Christmas markets: a traditional one on the Market Square and another on Simon Stevin Square, where you’ll find mostly artisanal products. Want to dance? Head to Winterbar Vorst. Fancy skating? Try the ice rink in Albert I Park. And for a good night’s sleep? Stay at hostel Europa.
Winter in Ghent
Ghent’s Winter Festivities run from 4 to 31 December 2025, with plenty of stalls and attractions. Last year you had to skate on roller skates, but this time there’s real ice under your feet again! Show off your moves on the rink at Emile Braun Square, then grab a drink at the après-skate bar next door. Don’t miss the magical lights at the Castle of the Counts, renamed “Winterwonderkasteel” for the occasion. The highlight? The Ferris wheel, giving you a breathtaking view of the historic city. Overnight stays are of course at hostel De Draecke.
Winter in Antwerp
From 5 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, Antwerp turns into the biggest Christmas village in Flanders. Starting at Koningin Astrid Square, stroll to the Opera Square, then the Groenplaats, Handschoenmarkt, Grote Markt, Suikerrui and Hendrik Conscience Square. Expect cosy chalets, festive squares and endless food and drinks. If one day isn’t enough, make it a weekend and stay at hostel Pulcinella.
Wintertijd Leuven
Leuven’s Christmas Market runs from 9 to 21 December 2025. Grab a drink at Winterstube Rudolf, browse handmade products in the many chalets, and enjoy international street food, waffles and mulled wine. Families will love the Pine Forest, where Santa Claus is waiting for a photo. For a comfy night, hostel De Blauwput is just a short walk away.
Winterland Hasselt
Looking for a more active winter experience? Winterland Hasselt is open from 14 November 2025 to 4 January 2026, with attractions that immerse you in the Christmas spirit. Take a ride on the Ferris wheel, skate on the covered 1,000 m² ice rink, or dare to enter Santa’s Ghost Villa. Speed lovers can zoom down the giant La Suisse slide, while families will enjoy the Grand Carousel, the Christmas train, Santa’s Labyrinth, and of course the House of Santa Claus. Stay nearby at hostel H.
Kortrijk Christmas Market
From December 4, 2025, to January 4, 2026, the Grand Place of the “Golden Spurs” city will turn into a cozy winter village. Wooden chalets will treat you to original gifts and seasonal delicacies (both food and drinks). The surrounding squares also shine in Christmas spirit. At Sint-Maartenskerkhofplein, you can enjoy live concerts and DJ sets. The Vandaleplein is home to Santa Claus, where you can visit him in his workshop. Hostel Groeninghe is located away from the hustle and bustle, yet still within walking distance of the festive cheer.
Where are you heading this year? Plenty of places to soak up the Christmas spirit. Or are you planning a Christmas market tour across Flanders? Great idea!
