De Gavers: breathe in the fresh air of nature

In need of nature? Just a stone's throw from Kortrijk lies the provincial domain of De Gavers. With no less than 212 hectares of forest, water, and recreational facilities, this spot is perfect for nature lovers and sports enthusiasts alike. Once a marshy area, the 65-hectare Gavermeer lake was created in the 1960s through sand extraction for the construction of the nearby E17 highway.

The western part of the domain is a bird reserve. In the east, a heron colony has made its home, and butterfly meadows have been created to support butterflies and insects.

Visiting with a group? Plenty of nature and adventure activities are available—just make sure to inquire in advance. You can also grab a bite or a drink at two spots within the domain: Cafetaria Gavermolen and Grand Café De Gavers.
