Beneath the King Albert I Monument in Nieuwpoort lies a hidden gem: Westfront Nieuwpoort, an engaging visitor centre that brings the history of World War I vividly to life. Here, you’ll discover how the strategic flooding of the polders around Nieuwpoort played a key role in halting the German advance during the First World War. The story is told through authentic objects, personal testimonies, and a breathtaking 180° projection of the Yser panorama.
Tip: after exploring the exhibition, take the lift up the King Albert I Monument for a stunning panoramic view of the Yser plains and the coastline.
