Westhoek Nature Reserve

Oostduinkerke

In the far west of Belgium, on the border with France, lies a vast 350-hectare nature reserve known as Flanders’ oldest and most untouched dune landscape.
Follow well-marked trails through a varied landscape of coastal dunes, shifting sands, dune valleys and wetlands. Along the way, discover over 400 plant species, including rarities like the grass-of-Parnassus and marsh helleborine.
If you’re lucky, you might spot Konik horses, Highland cattle, or one of the many bird species that inhabit the area. For the full experience, start your visit at the Duinpanne Visitor Centre to learn more about the local flora and fauna.
